I can remember going to the island (Vancouver Island) almost every year to go visit her, we were there almost every birthday until i moved out of my parents house and went to Alberta. One time, she was turning 60 (29 years ago) cause we used to go to the restaurant in the Tyee Plaza in Campbell River and watch the Ferry dock from Quadra Island every fifteen minutes or so. I remember this particular time because she realized that she was able to get seniors discount.
Another time, my parents left me and my brother in the care of my Grandma and her Man Doug, we can call him Grandpa Doug, anyway... they came to Ashcroft to look after us for the weekend, we used to walk downtown every day after school collecting bottles along the way to return them at the grocery store for money to help to pay for the days groceries. Also had to make sure to keep the plastic bag the peanut butter sandwich came to school in, as well as the brown bag. why?... to use it tomorrow of course. cause you never wasted anything.
War time grandma, she grew up fairly wealthy from what I'm told. but came to Canada with pretty much nothing, had to make ends meet with her husband, Grandpa Archie. So nothing was wasted. Thats just how things were back then, nothing wrong with that.
She was a awesome lady whom i will never forget. Thanks for being you. Going to miss you.
