Went to Havana today, what an adventure that was.
We rented 7 1950's era taxi's from someone, Eunice was our guide, I can't remember our drivers name, we were in a old dodge something or other, no idea, was white.
We left the resort around 8:30 I think and travelled to Veradero where we switched taxis. Not to sure why but it happened that way. Continued down the highway we stopped at the highest bridge in Cuba... (150 meters). Looked like the Alexandra Bridge near ) Hope BC.
Was there for about 10 - 15 minutes, took some photos, looked at some tourist things. Leah bought a very cool ring, Back in the cab, en route to La Habana as the Cubans call it, not to sure why we call it Havana... But whatever. drove past some towns along the way...seen some oil refineries, water works, electricity plants, (not to sure what powers the electricity plants)
We arrived in La Habana from a tunnel, such a beautiful city, old building are a plethora.
<insert of image La Habana from car> we went to the <revolution plaza?> and seen the buildings that are used for the Cuban government, (ministry of finance, education, health and defense. As well as the presidential building) insert photos of those buildings.
Cubans seems to be pretty proud of their heritage and the revolution, there's images of Ernesto "Che" Guerva and Fidel Castro everywhere, more of "Che" then of Fidel from what I have seen.
(prolly going to have to read up on the Cuban revolution to understand it a little more. Something about kicking out american officials and gangsters)
We had some time to snap a few pictures and the <revolution square> And we were off to a store that sold Havana Club rum, and cigars, Cigars are very famous all around the world... I don't need to tell you that, if you need more information, click the link.
From there we went for lunch at <insert name of restaurant>, was pretty good food. Had seafood casserole, but was really just some prawns, rock lobster tail and some sort of white fish, possibly <>.
After that some people got driven to a hous where they were able to buy large quantities of cigars while the rest of us went to the market. The market is sort of like the market in Jamaica, people hounding you to buy their items inside their booth. Honestly, the same shit was in every 6 booths.
We got really tired of being hassled an every booth we walked past, which was probably around 160 booth or so. We felt extremely overwhelmed, that we just needed out... We were done. We found some people we were traveling out outside so we say out on the pier with them... <insert pier photos> but we also felt that we needed to go back in and get something. I mean come in, only going to be at the market in La Habana once, might as well suck it up and get something,
We did get a really awesome wooden carving of Cuba, and a fan, and Leah got a baseball and a mini bat, and an authentic Cuban Fedora.
After the market we drove to Old Habana. The roads are closed to vehicles so we got to do a walking tour. So much history there. From what our guide Eunice was telling us, buildings like this one was around when pirates roamed the earth, 1700's ish, back around Christopher Columbus days, seen a church where rumor has it, his remains rested there for some time, Seen the oldest building in Habava, dated back to <insert date and photo>.
After thr walking tour of Old Habana it was time to head back to the resort. We stopped along the way at a restaurant/bar for washroom breaks. Got back Veradero around 8:00pm ish. Thanked our guide and driver and headed to the room to change and drop off our purchases and hit up the buffet for dinner.
2 hours later, lights out.
